Banana Boy

Earlier today, I needed to take my pill (for my sciatica), but didn't feel like making anything to eat, and I'm supposed to take it with food. So I decided on a banana. Sitting down on the floor to eat it, I got all of two bites in before Caleb the Beggar showed up wanting some too. Pretty soon, it became clear that I wasn't going to get any more banana, so naturally, I handed him the whole thing and got out the camera instead. Isn't he so cute?

Look at those cheeks stuffed full of banana.

Chex This Out

It is one of my mother's official duties to inform me of all world events that I need to know about. This includes when to change my clocks. Brandon thought we should hire someone to change all the clocks in our house, but that we'd have to pay them pretty well since we have so many clocks. (In actuality, we don't have enough clocks in our house, but I digress.)

Today at church, as sacrament meeting was coming to a close, there was a surprising amount of people coming in and looking for seats. We have a huge ward, so it probably didn't phase them at all that so many people were already there. We were sitting in the back and this one couple came and sat next to us, as the bishop was giving a few closing remarks. Then there was a song and a prayer, as is normal for both the beginning or the end of the meeting, so nothing really seemed that unusual until we all started to get up after the prayer. They looked so confused. We explained the whole daylight savings thing to them and they both thought it was utterly hilarious. The wife said that normally her mom reminds her of things like that. It's apparently a universal mom job. I'll have to remember to call Caleb after he's grown and moved out so that he doesn't show up an hour late to church wondering why the bishop is being so serious when the meeting just started.

Since church happens to be right when Caleb needs his morning nap, we bring lots of snacks to help him be good and sit still. Normally, we bring his food, which includes Cheerios. Today, I had Brandon fill a ziploc full of Rice Chex, since that's what I normally eat for breakfast and Caleb likes to help me eat them out of my bowl (and we already had Cheerios in the diaper bag). During sacrament meeting, I was giving Caleb the Rice Chex and he was eating them just fine. But then he decided that Mommy was hungry too and started to feed them to me. He's tried to feed me things before from time to time, but nothing like today. Today, he was grabbing fistfuls (a whopping three at a time) and trying to put them all in my mouth at the same time. Reach in the bag, feed them to Mommy, reach in the bag, feed them to Mommy. Which meant that I had to start feeding some to him too or he wouldn't get any.

Brandon was feeling a little left out. He kept asking Caleb if he could have some too. But Caleb would only give them to me. Finally, Caleb reached up for Brandon's mouth, Chex in hand. He started to feed it to Brandon, then changed his mind and pulled it back. Three times in a row, he did it. Finally, Caleb just ate it himself. Such a cute little bugger.

One more cute thing -- in Sunday School, Caleb was sitting on the floor playing with Faith and Naomi. I'm a big believer that after Caleb's been good for over an hour in sacrament meeting, that he deserves a little time to play. So they're all on the floor playing, and Naomi comes over to Caleb and gives him the hugest hug and kiss. Afterwards, Caleb said, "no no no" over and over again.

So, here's my theory. Well, multiple theories:

1. He doesn't like getting hugs and kisses from girls (other than his mommy, of course).

2. He LOVES getting hugs and kisses and was upset that she had stopped.

3. Really, he was just trying to say "Naomi" or, sometimes her parents call her "Nomers" so maybe he was going for that.

Who's Your Daddy?

Brandon is once again winning the never ending battle to be The Favorite. It breaks my heart, really. I mean, maybe if Caleb was consistent, I could get used to the idea, but no, I don't even know what I did to lose my status again. And if there had ever been a time for Brandon to be The Favorite, it would have been on the cruise, but that's when Mommy was top dog and had to do all the back breaking work of constantly holding our child. I guess I should be enjoying my break from all that heavy lifting, but I still miss my cute baby.

Four signs that Daddy is The Favorite:

4. If Brandon is in the living room with us but trying to get work done on his computer, all Caleb wants is Brandon's attention. Mommy will not suffice. Caleb proceeds to make the most annoying whining noises until Brandon gets extremely frustrated, and then Caleb cries. All while I'm trying to convince the baby that his mommy is more fun to play with. Which he never believes. Lately, I've been kicking Brandon out of the room, because only then will Caleb be content with "second best."

3. Whenever I have Caleb and Brandon comes near, Caleb reaches both arms out for Brandon to pick him up. Every time.

2. This morning, Brandon was getting ready to go out to work (to do pre-season sales) and Caleb crawled after him, following him throughout the whole house, while Mommy laid on the couch pretending to be awake, but really actually sleeping.

And the number one reason:

1. Caleb nows says "Daddy" whenever he sees Brandon. He doesn't even babble "ma ma" anymore.

Isn't he a cutie in his little belly shirt? We got it in Jamaica, size twelve months, but it's a little too small. Even though all of Caleb's other twelve months clothes are still a tad too big for him.

And for record keeping purposes, the top picture is from back in January and this bottom one from the end-ish of February.

The Trip to Hell

While we were in Grand Cayman, we stopped in Hell. It's this super tiny town that I think is only named Hell so that the tourists will stop there and spend money. Which we did.

They do have these crazy black rock formations that might also contribute to the name. I don't think Caleb was too fond of the idea of being in Hell.

But at least now we can say that we've been to hell and back!

A Change in Plans

It's officially decided (until we change our minds again...you never know with us) -- we're going to Sacramento, CA for the summer!

I'm so excited. Although I will miss visiting the Hershey factory every day, it's probably better for my waistline this way.

Sacramento was actually Brandon's first choice, but another guy in his region picked it before Brandon got his turn to pick. But as fate would have it, we're joining offices and I get to spend my summer soaking in the sun. Good thing Caleb has my olive skin. We're both going to be so tan and beautiful by the time we get back to Utah in September.

On the plus side, Sacramento is a much bigger area than we would have had otherwise, which means that we now have more room for people to come work with us. So, if you or anyone you know would like the chance to make tons of cash in only four months, email me or Brandon and we'll tell you all the details. It's seriously the best way of life. It can be hard work, but then neither of us work the other eight months out of the year (well, I don't work for money all year long... although I am trying to convince Caleb to pay me for my mad mothering skills) and we get to spend all our time together. It's the best.

Only two more months till I'll be soaking up the sun!

Shades of Purple

So the other day I took this color quiz online (results posted below). Since a couple of people that I know have done it too, I thought it would be fun to take the quiz for Caleb. So I did and got orchid. Then I had Brandon take the quiz for Caleb too. He got violet.

At first I thought it was funny that we both got shades of purple for our baby. But then I read the descriptions and they are word for word the same. So, orchid, violet, it doesn't matter; here's our kid:

Your dominant hues are red and blue. You're confident and like showing people new ideas. You play well with others and can be very influential if you want to be.

Your saturation level is lower than average - You don't stress out over things and don't understand people who do. Finishing projects may sometimes be a challenge, but you schedule time as you see fit and the important things all happen in the end, even if not everyone sees your grand master plan.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.
