America's Birthday Party

To celebrate the fourth of July, Englewood had a birthday party for America on 7/2. They had a dj and a few vendors, but mostly people relaxed on the lawn in their chairs or on their blankets waiting for the fireworks to start.

Caleb had a great time dancing to the music.

Caleb decided he needed to wear his jacket. I don't know how we're supposed to live in Arizona (which is our next intended destination) when this kid loves to wear a jacket. But there were a lot of bugs out, so despite the fact that I was sweating like crazy, I let him keep it on.

We then passed our time playing with the camera.

We had a snack.

Then we watched the fireworks.

Caleb hated the fireworks. As soon as they started, he asked me for at least a minute straight to go home. "Come on, Mommy, let's go home." Over and over again. I made him stay and he laid on top of me the whole time, covering his face with his hands and peeking through his fingers.

By the end of the night, I had almost convinced him the fireworks were cool. Although he still thought they were scary.

Saturday, we went to a pool party/bbq. When it got dark enough and you could see the fireworks in the distance, Caleb started asking to go home. On the side of the building where we live, there were some people shooting off their own illegal fireworks. Caleb insisted we go home. So we went inside and watched the Macy's firework show on tv, which was awesome, and Caleb loved it. He has been asking for fireworks on tv ever since then.

Sunday, Brandon took Caleb to the mall where they had some festivities going on, as well as a fireworks show once it got dark. Brandon taught Caleb to cover his ears instead of his eyes and supposedly Caleb liked the show (though Brandon still had to hold him the whole time).

It has a FIREWORK setting? Now that's very cool.
